On Tuesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visited the National Meeting of Young Naturalists dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the naturalist movement in Ukraine and the 85th anniversary of foundation of the Regional Station of Young Naturalists (now National Ecological-Naturalistic Youth Center of Ministry on Science and Education of Ukraine).
He visited the exhibition of works of pupils of regional environmental-naturalist centers from all the regions of Ukraine, where the methodological works of educational teams, research works and methodological recommendations for the biology teachers of secondary compulsory schools were presented.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, V. Lytvyn declared that this event should have been celebrated on the state level. "Today, I would like to appreciate the pursuits of two generations of devotees who have been teaching our children to love the nature, and such essential values as ability to work and live on the land", Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declared.
Addressing the teaching personnel, V. Lytvyn emphasised that their occupation is among the noblest teaching professions. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers for bringing up the young generation.
V. Lytvyn drew attention to the necessity of submitting proposals as to the decent labour remuneration of the teachers´ out-of-school work.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reminded of the past intentions to liquidate the center. He explained that conferring the center with the ‘national´ status prevented the attempts "to cut off an attractive piece of land ", where the center is situated. "I hope that I contributed to this cause", the Head of the Parliament stated.
According to Volodymyr Verbytskii, Director of the Center, it was V. Lytvyn who facilitated conferring the ‘national´ status to the center in 2000.
